Auditions set for new symphonic orchestra

Auditions are being held for the newly created Southeastern Minnesota Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Brock A. Besse of Albert Lea. The orchestra will hold regular rehearsals on Sundays beginning Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. Rehearsals will be in the Albert Lea High School band room, 2000 Tiger Lane. The orchestra will perform five annual concerts.
Auditions will be held at First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea, 301 W. Clark St. throughout the week beginning Sunday, Feb. 8, and ending on Saturday, Feb. 14. Auditions are by appointment only, and can be set at any time during this week. Contact Besse at 373-6424, ext. 107, or e-mail bbesse@charter.net to set up an audition time. Instrumentalists will be asked to play a couple of scales, and sight read a couple of pieces of music. If you have something prepared, bring this along as well.
The orchestra is looking for the following positions: Flute II, Oboe I, Oboe/English Horn II, Clarinet I, Clarinet II, Bassoon II, Trumpet I, Trombone I, II & III, Keyboard, Percussion I & II, Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello and Bass.
All members are given a stipend after each concert, which is determined by the number of practices attended and the total ticket sales for each concert. All are welcome to audition.
