Alden-Conger turned a sparkling clutch performance into a 55-54 win Tuesday night in a non-conference girls’ basketball game.
The win came against a LeRoy-Ostrander team that rolled into Alden with a 6-1 record and had won six straight games.
“The girls went out and made it happen,” Knights coach Gary Newman said. “I’m very proud of them.”
The Cardinals led 54-53 with 55 seconds remaining. Alden-Conger intercepted a pass. With 33 seconds left, a held ball was called, which allowed the Knights to keep possession. After a timeout, Megan Miller found Krista Mathiason on a back door cut for the game-winner.
Nadean Krueger led Alden-Conger with 18 points. Katie Hallman had 14 and Mathiason and Mackenzie Martin both scored eight.
The halftime score was 33-33.
The Knights (7-3) turned the ball over only 12 times.
Alden-Conger travels to Martin County West on Thursday.
