Memorial services for Margaret Lillian Cardinal, 90, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Margaret went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 6, 2009, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center.
Margaret Lillian Cardinal was born on June 26, 1918, to John and Elizabeth (Gaard) Marking in Dimmock, S.D. She grew up and went to school in South Dakota. On April 23, 1936, she married Matthew Brech in South Dakota. The couple then moved to Minnesota. Margaret was a member of the Church of St. Theodore and was active in the CCW. Later she married Roy Cardinal and the couple moved to Colorado in the mid 1960s. In 1999 Margaret returned to Albert Lea. Margaret loved camping and made many quilts for family. She also enjoyed sewing, dancing and singing in her earlier years.
Survivors include her children: Arla (Dale) Moen, Jim (Nicki) Brech, Joyce (Darwin) Orris, Dewayne (Pat) Brech, Marge (Paul) Geiger, Kevin (Delana) Brech and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brech; grandchildren: Rick (Kim) Moen, Cindy (Don) Westland, Sue (Dave) Sanderson, Jim (Darcy) Brech, Tami (Jerry) Redig, John Brech, Les (Joann) Seltun, Lance Seltun, Tim (Tracy) Brech, Brian (LeAnn) Brech, Jason (Stephanie) Culp, Chris (Latisha) Culp, Levi (Moona) Cardinal, and Lillian (Craig) Simpsons; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Betty Stowell, Devona (Vic) Brown, Bob (Billie) Marking, Ron (Betty) Marking, and Larry (Marie) Marking; many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Matthew and Roy; son, Ken Brech; grandsons: Mark Brech and Lon Seltun; great-grandson in infancy, Joshua Sanderson; siblings: LeRoy Marking, Norman Marking, Alvina Fredrickson, Florence Erpenbach, and Lynn Hohn.
