Marie Johnson

Marie O. Johnson, 94, of Wells, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at her home in Wells. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Visitation will be today from 1 until 4 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Meg Sander will officiate and burial will be in Rice Lake Cemetery in Foster Township., Faribault County.
Marie O. Johnson was born June 3, 1914, the daughter of Henry and Daisy (Gregory) Buendorf in Monango, N.D. She was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Walters. She was united in marriage to Vernon Johnson on Nov. 12, 1933 at the North Blue Earth Parsonage in Bricelyn. She belonged to the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Wells. She was active in teaching Sunday School and serving in the Ladies Aid. Later, the church merged with Good Shepherd Church and Marie was active in Love Circle, which later became the Hope Circle, and quilting. Marie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary, both in Wells.
Marie loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her garden, flowers and watching birds.
She is survived by her children: Patricia (and husband Robert) Schumacher of Bloomington, Barry (and friend Marlene) Johnson of Mankato, Stuart Johnson of Wells, Kent (and wife, Jackie) Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; daughter-in-law Dolly Johnson of Albert Lea; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Harold Johnson (and wife, Peggy) of Austin; along with many nieces, nephews and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vernon, in 2007; two sons: Dean in 2002 and Dale in 1987; grandson Rhett and granddaughter Traci; two brothers: Merle and Earl Buendorf and sisters: Goldie Johnson, Loretta Bendickson and infant sister Gretta Buendorf.
