The Salvation Army, along with Anytime Fitness, both of Albert Lea, are teaming up to fight hunger in Freeborn County. This event is the grass root effort of Sindy Dickey, manager of Anytime Fitness.

“Hunger and homelessness never stops” said Dickey, so on Feb. 6 form 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Feb. 8 “the treadmill or elliptical will run without ceasing for 48 hours.” The intention is to make this an annual event doing our part to stop hunger in Freeborn County.

It is Dickey’s desire to unite Freeborn County asking anyone 18 or older to bring in non-perishable food items and cash donations to keep the machines running. She has challenged local business members, city officials and residents of Freeborn County to get involved in this community.

The Salvation Army’s food shelf is in great need. This grass roots effort is an attempt to stock the shelves and continue to meet the increasing need in Freeborn County.

The mission statement of The Salvation Army is in part “to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs without discrimination”. The Salvation Army will continue to “Meet the Unmet Need.”
