The Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Guild of Organists is hosting a musical tribute to famed organist Dr. Paul Manz on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
The event, including hymn improvisations, hymn singing, commentaries, and choral and instrumental music, will be held on Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 222 Sixth Ave. SW, Rochester, beginning at 2 p.m. Area organists will lead the event. Albert Lea organist, Gail Thurnau of Christ Episcopal Church, will be participating.
Manz, currently residing in Minneapolis, is one of the most influential American organists of the latter half of the twentieth century. His noted hymn improvisations are heard in churches all across the world. Capping the afternoon will be the singing of “E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come,” led by the Trinity Lutheran Choir and participants from the assembled congregation.
