There wasn’t too much to for Albert Lea girls’ basketball coach Sean Gillam to be pleased with following Tuesday’s 59-42 loss to Rochester Century in Rochester.
The Tigers (9-16) were badly outrebounded against the Panthers and weren’t able to get much going offensively in the first half.
Century recorded 25 offensive rebounds in the game and finished with 50 for the game. Albert Lea had just 31 total rebounds.
“When you go against an athletic team like Century you cannot just watch a shot go up,” Gillam said.
While the Panthers dominated the glass, their zone defense also kept the Tigers in check. Albert Lea scored just 12 points in the first half and found itself down by 19 at the break.
Things did it better in the second half as the Tigers outscored Century 30-28 but the damage had already been done.
Three Panther players scored in double figures with Katy Scherer and Lindsay Braatz leading the way with 12 points each. Mallory Cochran added 10 points for Century.
Abbey Arends and Alyssa Sager led Albert Lea with 13 and 12, respectively.
The Tigers also committed 19 turnovers to the Panthers’ 10.
Albert Lea has one final regular season game Friday against John Marshall at home before the section playoffs begin.
