Funeral services for Lloyd Christensen, age 78, of Hartland, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be at the Freeborn Cemetery with military honors accorded by area veterans organizations. Lloyd died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family.
Lloyd Christensen was born on July 13, 1930 to Victor and Beverly (Longshore) Christensen in Albert Lea. He grew up in the Freeborn area and graduated from Freeborn High School in 1948. He served in the United States Navy. On Sept.19, 1954 he was united in marriage to Geraldine Bogenschutz at First Lutheran Church of Wells. The couple lived on a farm in Freeborn until moving to their current farm in 1959 where Lloyd was a crop and dairy farmer. He enjoyed farming with his twin brother Leslie until they retired in 2006. Lloyd was a member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. He enjoyed going to the casino, camping, playing cards, especially 500. He loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Brian and wife Kathy Christensen, David Christensen, Mark and wife Nancy Christensen, Susan and husband Paul Reyerson; grandchildren Staci Christensen and fiancé, Levi Poole, Tyler Christensen, Brooke and Abby Reyerson; brothers, Leslie and wife Yvonne Christensen, Dale and wife Judy Christensen; brother-in-law, Bud Matthies; many nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Beverly Christensen; wife, Geraldine Christensen; granddaughter, Heather Christensen; and sisters, Jeanne Matthies and Beverly Christensen.
