Woodside wins Summit League Player of the Month

North Dakota State’s Ben Woodside received the Summit League Athlete of the Month award for January after helping lead the Bison to an 8-1 record in the month.

It’s the second time Woodside has earned the honor this season. He averaged 22.8 points in nine games, along with 4.9 assists. Woodside shot 50 percent from the field and 49 percent from 3-point range.

In a five-point overtime victory at UMKC, Woodside scored 21 of NDSU’s final 28 points, including 12 straight free throws.

Woodside led the team in scoring in seven of the nine games and became the first NDSU player to surpass 2,000 career points Jan. 23 against South Dakota State.

Woodside also recorded his third double-double of the season in a 10-point win against Oakland, tying a career high with 10 assists.

He is ranked among the top 10 nationally in points and assists per game.

It was the third time Woodside has earned player of the month honors. He previously won the award in December 2008 and November 2007.

The Bison have five games remaining in the regular season and faced Southern Utah Saturday in Fargo.
