Albert Lea individual quarterfinal results

Two Albert Lea wrestlers made their way to the semifinals while three will have to fight their way through the wrestleback bracket.

At 103 pounds Trey Hable led 11-6 before Sam Brancale caught Hable and pinned him near the edge of the mat for a fall at 5 minutes, 19 seconds. Hable does have another match in the wrestlebacks against T.J. O’Hara. The wrestlebacks are scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

At 112 Cory Hansen is into the semifinals for the second consecutive year after a 12-3 decision against R.J. Hallman, of Chaska. Hansen will meet the second-ranked wrestler Sam Stewart, of Andover, in the semifinals.

At 119 Dalton Westerlund picked up an upset 4-3 double overtime victory against No. 3 ranked Ali Mohammed, of Burnsville. It was the second ranked wrestler Westerlund defeated on the day, he will wrestle Kahron Nix, of Coon Rapids, in the semifinals.

At 125, Cody Hansen’s run at a state title came to end against No. 2-ranked Trent Herold, of St. Francis. Herold earned a 3-1 decision against Hansen. Hansen moves on to the wrestlebacks and takes on Brandon Bigelbach, of Mounds View.

At 215, Ethan Reed wound up on the wrong end of a 5-3 decision against Mark Wychor, of Moorhead. Reed and Wychor were tied 3-3 with time expiring in the third period, but Wychor got a takedown near the edge of the mat for the 5-3 win. Reed moves on to the wrestlebacks against Bronson Kittleson of Robbinsdale Armstrong.

Four Albert Lea wrestlers made their way back to the field Thursday.

At 135 Carter Kortan will get another match, he will face Timmy Ruter of Buffalo.

At 145 Adam Kermes will wrestle Charlie Janssen, of Forest Lake, in the wrestlebacks.

Logan Kortan is still alive in the tournament in the wrestlebacks and will face Minnetonka’s Colton Gleason. Gleason lost to Zak Coates by injury default, so it will be interesting to see if he is able to go against Kortan because it would be a No. 3 versus No. 4 matchup.

Matt Tiegs will wrestle again after Tyler Lehmann pinned his man in 40 seconds. Tiegs will battle Mounds View’s Connor Finn.

Trevor Rasmussen was an unfortunate casualty who will not be back in the wrestlebacks.

New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva’s Colton Schlaak dropped a tough match against No. 7 ranked Shawn Johnson, of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, 4-2. Schlaak is still alive in the wrestlebacks and will face Justin Wendlandt, of Paynesville.

United South Central’s Preston Stolach is back in the tournament and will face Sam Lindgren in the wrestlebacks.

Tim Bartness will not get another match at 152, but David Lindell will at 189 for the Panthers. He will face Tayler Yliniemi in wrestlebacks.

A.J. Dreyer was pinned in 1:32 against No. 1 ranked Brad Kneisl. Dreyer will face Brian Reece, of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.
