Benefit breakfasts abound this weekend

Northbridge Mall is the host of several events this weekend.

First, on Saturday, there will be a kids’ fishing expo, sponsored by the Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be more than 20 learning stations for kids 12 years and younger.

From 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in center court, students from Cammi’s Dance Studio will perform.

From noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, there will be a grilled barbecued chicken feed to benefit the Big Island Rendezvous Education Days. The meal includes chicken, coleslaw, beans, roll and beverage for $5 per person. The event is sponsored by Piggy Blues BBQ with donations by Mrs. Gerry’s Salads, K & K Bakery and Northbridge Mall.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, there will be a fashion show in center court of the mall with fashions from mall stores.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, the Healthy by Choice Conference will be held at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Dr. Hans Diehl, CHIP founder and assistant professor of preventive medicine at Loma Linda University, will be the featured speaker. Hours are from 2:45 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 1:45 to 5 p.m. Sunday.  The elementary art exhibit will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday, March 28

 The elementary art exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Art Center.

The Humane Society of Freeborn County will hold a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s from 7 to 10 a.m. Cost is $5 per person.

Freeborn County 4-H will have an all-you-can-eat Dad’s Belgian Waffles breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the Fairlane Community Building on the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. Belgian waffles, sausage, milk, orange juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 years and kids 5 and younger eat free.

Sunday, March 29

 A pancake fest and silent auction, featuring Denny Brue’s pancakes, will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moose Lodge. Tickets are $6 per person. Proceeds will go toward scholarships, assisting families in financial need whose children wish to attend the Montessori Children’s House of Albert Lea.

 The Glenville-Emmons FFA will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion Club. Pancakes, sausage, eggs and drink will be served.

 The Sons of Norway Lodge will hold a Norwegian roll pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, parslied potatoes and lingonberries will be served. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children and kids 5 and younger eat free. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Salvation Army food shelf.

 The Morin Lake Days build-you-own-omelet breakfast will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alden-Conger School. Toppings include ham, cheese, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and black olives. The meal includes hash browns, muffins, orange juice, milk and coffee. Cost is $6 for adults ($3 for a second omelet) and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. Kids under 5 eat free.
