Charlotte Thompson, 87

Charlotte G. Thompson, 87, of Lake Mills, Iowa, formerly of Emmons, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Lake Mills Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons with the Rev. Julie Fiske officiating. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery, Emmons. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Charlotte Geraldine Askeland was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Armstrong, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Hanson) Askeland. She graduated from Blue Earth High School on May 31, 1939. She attended Mankato Teacher’s College for two years, and taught home economics in Frost. Charlotte continued her education and graduated from Iowa State in 1958. She then taught in Emmons for several years.
On March 20, 1959, Charlotte married Harold Thompson. After Harold and Charlotte retired, they spent their winters in Arizona. Charlotte cared for Harold until his death in 1986. In 1987, she moved into Leisure World senior living in Seal Beach, Calif., to be near Harold’s brother and his family, living there until she moved back to Emmons in 1997.
When Mills Harbour senior housing opened up in 1999, Charlotte was one of the first to move in. She entered the Lake Mills Care Center in 2008.
Charlotte is survived by three stepsons: Alvin Thompson and his wife, Ann, Ronald Thompson and his wife, Nyla, and Gilman Thompson and his wife, Nylene; a stepdaughter-in-law, Linda Peterson; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; a stepson, Gordon Thompson; and her sister, Margaret Martin.
