For the second straight year, Albert Lea’s Cory Hansen won second place at state.
For the second straight time Hansen faced an Apple Valley wrestler and came up short against the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 112 pounds.
Hansen, a sophomore, battled Apple Valley’s Dakota Trom in the finals at the Xcel Energy Center Saturday for the state crown and came away with a 5-2 loss.
Trom was able to get a takedown in the first period while Hansen got an escape. In the second period Trom came up with a takedown and an escape while Hansen only scored an escape in the third period in the loss.
Hansen said the loss was difficult, especially being so close to a state title, but said it was a good season.
He finished the season 41-5 and ranked No. 3 in the state.
Hansen had been undefeated since the Christmas Tournament in Rochester back on Dec. 19 and 20.
Hansen was one of four Albert Lea wrestlers to place at state. Cody Hansen took third place while Dalton Westerlund placed fourth and Logan Kortan fifth.
