Harry Shortenhaus, 86

Funeral services for Harry W. Shortenhaus, 86, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crossroads Evangelical Free Church. The Rev. Glen Stevens will officiate. Interment will be in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harry died on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his home.
Harry Wilbur Shortenhaus was born on June 12, 1922, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, the son of Harm and Grace (Gilbert) Shortenhaus. He grew up and graduated from high school there. Harry continued his education at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. On June 23, 1944, Harry was married to Gladys Kuiper in Springfield, S.D. They farmed near Buffalo Center and then moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where they lived for most of their married life. Harry was involved in businesss, real estate and insurance. Harry and Gladys moved to Albert Lea in 2000. He was a member of Crossroads Evangelical Free Church. Harry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; children: Harold (Karen) Shortenhaus of Delavan, Wis., Priscilla (Bruce) Schoeman of Willmar, and Barbara (Steve) McKenney of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Scott (Jen) Shortenhaus, James (Libby) Shortenhaus, Amy Shortenhaus, Tim Schoeman and fianceé Karly Zufall, Matthew Schoeman, Brian (Sarah) McKenney, and Nathan (Laura) McKenney; great-grandchildren: Liam McKenney and Adeleigh Shortenhaus; sister, Naomi Garst of Buffalo Center; brother, Leon (Ruth) Shortenhaus, of Sioux City, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are preferred to Crossroads Evangelical Free Church, Albert Lea or Grace Evangelical Free Church in Eagle Grove Iowa, or Youth for Christ, Albert Lea.
