Legion takes honor to the next level

Last year, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty designated March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day.

The Leo Carey Post 56 of the American Legion has taken that to another level. Teaming up with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans, they are reaching out to men and women who served their country during the period of 1960-1975. (The only requirement was to be from Freeborn County during this period or to live in this county now.)

These servicemen and women were asked to participate in an informational display to be held in Albert Lea, starting on March 15 at the American Legion Club. Individuals were asked to fill out information on branch of service, years served and if they wanted to include pictures or such for a display.

Forty-eight years after this important military era, the participation has been almost unbelievable, showing us we live in a great country and caring state. These dedicated military men and women are willing to share their past with others, including photos.

These people are your neighbors, co-workers, friends and loved ones who supported their country in a time of need.

Share their past: Stop in and take a look.
