Mavis died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 83 years of age.
Mavis was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Kiester, the daughter of Swan and Isabel Greene. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Kiester High School in 1943. That same year, on Nov. 26, she was united in marriage to Raynold Knudtson in Hayward by the Rev. Nordaune who had confirmed her earlier.
Mavis and Raynold farmed and in 1950 bought a farm east of Geneva, where they resided since. She loved to hop on the tractor and do field work or walk the beans. She was a waitress at the Cottage Café for a few years.
Mavis was a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Geneva where she was Sunday school treasurer for many years and also taught Sunday school. She was also active in the quilting group, Sarah group and Tuesday morning Bible Study.
Her dream of working in a National Park came true in 1985 when she and her friend worked during the summer at Yellowstone National Park.
Mavis and her husband traveled a lot in their younger years, going to Alaska, Germany, Denmark and Sweden. She was an avid bingo fan and loved to bake and sew. She had given away many quilts that she had made. In her later years, her biggest joy was having her two grandchildren, Skyla and John, come and stay. She loved them dearly.
Mavis is survived by her son, Joe, and his wife Wendy of Ellendale, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Emilie Laite of Owatonna and Mildred Baumann of Rosemount; and nieces, nephews and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raynold; brother, Marvin; and sister, Frances.
