Funeral services for Rebecca “Becky” Heavner, 101, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Daniel Baker will officiate. Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Becky died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Rebecca “Becky” Heavner was born on Aug. 7, 1907, to German immigrants, Johann and Christina (Ulmer) Hochhalter in Armour, S.D. She grew up in the Lake Andes and Armour area. Becky attended country school in Charles Mix County and high school in Armour. Becky was united in marriage to Kenneth Heavner on June 21, 1931, in Armour. The couple moved to Minnesota where they settled and farmed together. Becky was a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, sewing, ceramics, quilting, knitting and embroidery.
Survivors include her sons: Keith Heavner and his wife Shirley and Clarence Heavner and his wife Barbara; grandsons: Mark Heavner, Scott Heavner, Steve and wife Donna Heavner, Brian and wife Connie Heavner, Todd and wife Kris Heavner, Mike and wife Roseann Heavner; great-grandchildren: Christian and Tyler Heavner, Taylor, Braden and Alexi Heavner, Heidi, Hayley and Brad Heavner, and Clarissa, Garrett and Natalie Heavner; great-great-grandchild, Alyssa Heavner; sisters-in-law: Alpha Mae Heavner and Letha Mae Avery; many nieces and nephews.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Johann and Christina Hochhalter; husband, Kenneth; sisters: Esther and Louise; and brothers: Leonard, Ed, Tony, Rudie, Melvin, and Raymond; brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom, Jack Vance and John Heavner and Vida Lee Wehunt.
