More than 20 of Oma Ladlie’s children and grandchildren gathered at Thorne Crest for a surprise private violin recital by Bethany Zogg.
Zogg played a violin that was handmade by Ladlie’s father, Charles Osmundsen, in 1932.
Osmundsen came to America from Norway in 1903. He was a carpenter by trade.
The violin hung on Ladlie’s wall in her house before she moved to Thorne Crest. The violin was recently repaired and restored by KC Strings in Merriam, Kan.
Ladlie’s granddaughter, Stephanie Myers of Liberty, Mo., plans to use the violin for applied lessons at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. Myers is studying music education for her master’s degree.
Zogg is a 2006 graduate of Albert Lea High School who is majoring in chemistry at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
