The injury bug has bitten the Albert Lea boys’ track and field team.
The Tigers have five athletes out nursing injuries including two of the team’s captains, Ethan Marquardt and Matt Tiegs. Without their scoring punch the team has struggled in recent meets, but others have continued to shine.
Albert Lea traveled Friday to Rosemount to participate in the Rosemount Invitational and had several strong performers.
Kyle Kriewall placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.03 while Clayton Bratten took eighth with a time of 56.43.
Brady Sunblad placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.64 and eighth in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 18.04
Trevor Rasmussen took sixth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:09.29 while the 4×800 relay team finished fourth.
Torey Christensen placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet.
Albert Lea head coach Lisa Deyak said that half the team had personal bests on the day, led by a strong core of freshmen that have continued to improve throughout the season.
Time is running out on the regular season and Deyak would like to see the team get healthy before the Big Nine Conference meet on May 22 in Faribault.
