She was born and raised in Albert Lea. Her first love was sewing but has always loved crafting. Her mother got her interested in beading about seven years ago. After her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer Vaagen decided to open her own beading business so they could spend time together enjoying their common interest in beading. Her business Birds and Beads, was located downtown for four years.

Her work can be seen at Farmers State Bank during the month of April, along with photos of “Silhouettes provided by the Albert Lea Lens & Shutter Photography Club.

Farmers State Bank’s April open house and wine-tasting at the West Main Street location in Albert Lea is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Cost is $5 per person.
