According to Winnebago County District Court records, the events leading to his arrest started after the Lake Mills Police Department received a 911 call from Cindy Winter, Timothy Winter’s mother, at 11:22 p.m. last Thursday at 311 N. Grant St. in Lake Mills.

After receiving the call, an officer entered the house and met Cindy Winter in the kitchen, court documents state.

“Cindy had a large purple bruise on the left side of her face by her eye,” records indicated. “Cindy was bleeding profusely from the head.”

The officer stated when the woman turned around, he witnessed “a severe wound on the back of her head with muscle and skull exposed,” according to documents.

She told the officer that Timothy Winter had struck her several times with an unknown object, documents state.

While investigating at the scene, officers found a hammer covered with blood, hair and skin. The officer stated in the criminal complaint against Timothy Winter that he thinks the hammer was used to commit the assault.

Timothy Winter fled the area and was arrested Friday morning in Minnesota about three hours away from Winnebago County after someone made a suspicious person complaint. He is being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
