Funeral services for Norma Jean Hickman, 81, of Nashville, Tenn., will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. Krista Stokke will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Norma died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Norma Jean Hickman was born in Winnebego County, Iowa, the ninth month, 30th day of 1927, to Nels and Agnes (Gulbertson) Bergland. She attended Lake Mills, Iowa, schools. In 1948, she married Fremont (Butch) Fredrickson in Gordonsville. From that union four children were born: Dennis, Donald, Sonia and Brian. In 1966, she married William (Bill) Dorman; together they raised Mary Jane. In 1981, Norma married Robert (Bob) Hickman and has since lived in Nashville, Tenn.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Hickman, Nashville, Tenn.; children: Dennis Craig (Sandra) Fredrickson of Glenville, Donald Fremont (Becky) Fredrickson of Glenville, Sonia Kay Willaby of Glenville, and Brian Thomas (Lisa) Fredrickson of Albert Lea, Mary Jane (Paul) Allison of Blooming Prairie; grandchildren: Scott Fredrickson, Albert Lea, Thomas (Sarah) Fredrickson, Kasson, Daniel Fredrickson, Mankato, Kristyn Fredrickson, Glenville, Amy (Travis) Avelar, Mankato, Paula (Drew) Engoulou, Glenville, Bradley (Amanda) Willaby, Glenville, Tyler Allison, Blooming Prairie, Emily Allison, Blooming Prairie; 13 great-grandchildren (and two on the way); sisters: Nettie Thoreson, Scarville, Iowa, Thelma Hall, Albert Lea; brother, Arden Bergland, Albert Lea; sisters-in-law: Joann Olson, Emmons, Margaret Bergland, Albert Lea, Gladys Bergland, Albert Lea, and Pat Bergland, Albert Lea; and brother-in-law, Gene Bolinger, Albert Lea.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; former husbands: Fremont Fredrickson and William Dorman; son-in-law, David Willaby; brothers and sisters: Helmer Bergland, Ole Bergland, John Bergland, Verna Tysver, Truman Bergland, Wilma Flattum, Marvin Bergland; brothers and sisters-in-law: Irene Bergland, Maurice Flattum, Ron Green and Jimmy Hall; nieces and nephews: Wayne Miranda, Raymond Dean Sickels, Diane Broitzman, Jay Bergland, Jerry Bergland, and Dean Briones.
