USC (1-1, 1-1 Gopher) didn’t back down from Blooming Prairie Tuesday, even after going down 1-0 after the first inning.

The Rebels struck for two runs behind an RBI single from Brittni Cleveland and Becca Olson came around to score on an error.

“We came back and scored two to get the lead back in the bottom of the first inning and we just kept going after that,” said USC head coach Brad Huse.

The top of the order for USC was impressive, going a combined 6-for-9 with six runs scored. Leadoff hitter Olson went 2-for-2 with a home run and three runs scored. No. 2 hitter Kelsey Stevermer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored twice while No. 3 hitter Cleveland went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Rebels struck for six runs in the second inning, five of which came on two outs.

Ali Ramsley made her first start of the season on the mound and pitched 3 2/3 innings. She was effective and worked herself out of jams in the first and second innings. She allowed five walks in the game and struck out three.

Blooming Prairie starter Erica Manske had a difficult time on the mound. She was tagged for 11 hits, 12 runs and walked six.

The win will give USC some momentum heading into a busy stretch of games.

“I hope we build on this because we have three more this week and four each week after that,” Huse said.
