Rebels track teams turn in season-bests at Blue Earth

The Rebels track and field teams turned in some of their best performances of the season Saturday at the Blue Earth Invitational Track and Field Meet.
It was a great meet for the fans, with both the girls and boys competition coming down to the last event to decide a team champion. USC/A-C was involved in both of those tight finishes.
The Blue Earth Invitational is scored in true team fashion, meaning that all eight places in the relays are scored, as well as all 16 places in the individual events.
The girls pulled off one the big upsets of the season in winning their competition.
“Going into the last event of the day, the 4×400, we had to beat Fairmont by three places to win the meet, and that’s exactly what happened,” USC/A-C head coach Kent Viesselman said.
The top four teams finished the day within eight points of each other.
The shuttle hurdle team of Lizzy Leland, Mary Erin Mueller, Breanna Wegner and Ciara Christenson won that event, and Christenson joined forces with Brianna Gormley, Sabrina Bushlack and Hannah Goemann to win the crucial 4×400 in their best time of the season.
The boys won six events on their way to a second-place finish.
The Rebels took the gold in four of the six relays and finished second in the other two relays.
The shuttle hurdle team of Jake Herman, Skylar Pederson, E.J. Knight, and Seth Treptow took first in that seldom-run event.
