The Albert Lea Salvation Army on Friday welcomed back four more team members from disaster duty in the Red River Valley.
Capt. Jim Brickson, pastor and administrator of the local Salvation Army, and Fred Christenson, of Clarks Grove, both served in Bismarck and Grand Forks. They were were deployed March 25 and were assigned to command staff.
It was Christenson’s first deployment as a disaster worker.
Kim Behrens and Jeremy Walterman of Albert Lea served in Fargo.
Walterman and Behrens were assigned to canteen operations, serving hot and cold meals on both sides of the river.
“The warm reception from the residents is the reason that we do what we do,” Walterman said. “I believe in my heart that if the shoe was on the other foot people would be there for me as well.”
While deployed, the group helped with the distribution of meals and beverages to more than 200,000 people and provided close to 800 hours of volunteer services.
