Las Vegas-style entertainment comes to Albert Lea High School on Saturday.
The Albert Lea High School ‘CAT’aclysmic show choir, will host its annual show choir competition on Saturday. This marks the 14th year of this event and brings in schools for a day of entertainment and friendly competition.
The day will begin at 10:45 a.m. with schools from prep, class B, and class A divisions. Albert Lea’s Southwest Blue Sky will perform at 10:45 a.m. and Albert Lea’s SASS group will compete about noon. After lunch more schools will compete beginning at 1:30.
Albert Lea CATaclysmic will perform at the end of the afternoon in exhibition at 3:30 p.m.
Each choir performs for 25 minutes and meets with an adjudicator for a short critique while watching their performance on a videotape. At the end of the daytime competition, the top three winners from each class will be announced and the top five scores overall will be presented with the championship trophies. There will be no finals show in the evening this year due to a lower number of participants.
The show choir students and their parents work to put together a day complete with food and decorations.
Schools competing this year are Albert Lea’s Southwest Middle School, ALHS SASS, Waseca, Jackson County Central, St. James, Omaha North, North St Paul and the International School of Minnesota.
Tickets are available at the door and are $8 for adults and $5 for students for the whole day.
