It took nearly a month, but the Albert Lea girls’ golf team finally got its first home match of the season Monday at Green Lea Golf Course.

The Tigers clearly felt comfortable back at the home course, firing a 360 to defeat Century by 48 strokes.

“That’s a great round in this weather,” said Albert Lea head coach Shawn Riebe. “For those girls to pull it together in that weather … that’s a huge round for us.”

The Tigers carded their second-lowest round of the season and they did with parity. Kelli Hanson led the team with an 88 despite some struggles on the back nine. Megan Pulley was one back with an 88 while Heather Greibrok shot 91 and Taylor Nelson 92.

“Overall I like where we’re at,” Riebe said. “We just have to play our good meets against the big teams.”

The team set a career-low score at the first meet of the season with a 362 against Waseca, it has since beaten that mark twice now.

The win moved Albert Lea to 3-0 in the Big Nine and sets up a big match Tuesday with Faribault, the co-defending conference champion. The Tigers have already beaten Austin, the other co-defending champion, and a win against the Falcons would be a strong statement for the team.
