Albert Lea High School singers perform at solo, ensemble contest

On May 20, several Albert Lea High School singers sang solos and ensembles and were critiqued by judges. This contest was organized to provide another solo and ensemble opportunity for freshmen and those who could not attend the state solo and ensemble contest that was held at the end of January. Earning a superior and a perfect score for their vocal performance were the mixed quartet of Holly Ryks, Mollie Hernandez, Zach Wilke, and David Grano, and vocal solo by Samantha Stanley. Superior ratings on solos were earned by Matt Buhr, Morgan Field, Matt Attig, Michelle Hartmann, Erin Everhard, Amy Vandenheuvel, Taylor Peek, Stuart Behling, Jessica Vano, Alex Amundson, Peter Grano, Chad Lenze, Chelsea Petersen, Tara Chirpich, Tara Helgeson, Claire Buendorf, Ahsley Tewes, Annmarie Caporale and Stephanie Ferguson. Also earning superior were duets with Aaron Thomas and Tim Stoneking, Alexa McCune and Jocelyn Smith, Holly Ryks and Noah Christopherson, and men’s quartet with Tim Stoneking, Ben Knutson, Aaron Thomas and Noah Christoperson.

An excellent rating for solo performance was given to Sean Laurie, Jesse Silva, Amy Bohlen, Britani Felten, Jace Talamantes, Macy Paul, Katie Nelson, Kaila Beckner, Brandon Ranum, Zoe Hill, and Amanda Walters. Also earning excellent were duet with Ashley Petersen and Samantha Petersen, Amy Vandenheuvel and Brielle Smith, and a trio with Zach Battleson, Sergio Salgado and Nick Bera.

The ALHS students were judged by Mike Ellingsen from Blue Earth High School and Dick Jokumsen from St. James. They were accompanied by their teacher, Diane Heaney.
