An Austin man reportedly angry his DVD player wasn’t working was charged after shooting at it several times in city limits.
Bail was set at $20,000 or $2,000 with conditions for 29-year-old Joshua Telljohann, who is charged with two counts of felony discharge of a firearm in a municipality and two counts of gross misdemeanor firearm possession-fugitive from justice.
According to the police complaint, Austin police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of 10th Street Northeast on April 29 to the report of a person pointing a firearm out a window.
An individual reported a white male with a shaved head tossed something out the window of 603 10th St. N.E.
When an officer arrived on the scene, he ordered the suspect to drop his gun, which he fired several times into the ground.
Telljohann was placed in a squad car and transported to jail. A Winchester .22 rifle and Smith & Wesson .357 magnum revolver were discovered in the house, along with a box of ammunition. A DVD player was found damaged by gunfire.
Another individual told police the suspect had been upset his DVD player was not working. The defendant admitted to shooting five rounds with the revolver and two rounds with the rifle into the DVD player.
Telljohann’s blood alcohol level was tested at 0.15; he claimed he consumed one beer. He was wanted for a misdemeanor warrant in Florida and had missed several court appearances.
Telljohann is scheduled for arraignment in Mower County District Court May 14.
