Last fall, Southwest Middle School eighth-grade students took the EXPLORE test, the eighth- grade version of the ACT. Students who scored in the 90th percentile or higher were invited to attend the fourth annual college visit trip. Students voted to visit Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. On April 30, 35 students spent the day visiting campus. With the help of gifted and talented funds, Southwest was able to offer this opportunity. Students received a tour of campus, a presentation by a college admissions counselor, a question-and-answer session with a panel of current students, a view of campus life and lunch.
