Two of the three men injured last week as a result of the explosion and subsequent fire in a house on Academy Avenue are in fair condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, according to a spokeswoman in the hospital’s burn center on Monday.
The third man, who received lesser injuries, is no longer hospitalized.
An Albert Lea Fire Department official said the people who were in the house at the time of the explosion were Luis Marino Reyes-Embales, Servando Ramos Flores, Jose Rafael Valle Ruiz and Robert Rivera.
Reyes-Embales and Flores are in fair condition at Regions Hospital. Ruiz, the renter of the property, received minor injuries. Rivera was not injured.
The injuries came just before 6 a.m. a week ago at 1421 Academy Ave., after what neighbors described as a loud explosion. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the entire house was engulfed in flames.
Two were upstairs at the time of the explosion and began heading downstairs. One on the main level ran outside; the other ran upstairs and assisted the other two down, authorities stated.
Fire Department officials announced later that day the explosion and fire were believed to have been caused by a natural gas leak.
