Knights softball ekes out win over Glenville-Emmons

The Alden-Conger softball team was fortunate to be the home team Tuesday night when it took on Glenville-Emmons.

The Knights and Wolverines hooked up for a slugfest with the two teams combining for 21 hits as Alden-Conger pushed one run across in the bottom of the seventh inning for an 8-7 win.

Alyssa Maras drove in Megan Miller to score the game winner.

Alden-Conger battled back two previous times to tie or regain the lead against Glenville-Emmons.

The Knights trailed 4-3 after the top half of the second, after putting up three runs in the first, and were able to take a 5-4 lead.

Then in the fourth the Wolverines scored three times to take a 7-5 lead, but once again Alden-Conger rallied in the bottom half for two runs to tie the game.

Krista Mathiason went 4-for-4 with two doubles while Nikki Schultz went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.

Kenzie Martin picked up the win, throwing 5 2/3 innings. She struck out three and allowed three runs.

“It was a good test for our kids,” said Knights head coach Gary Nelson. “We needed to learn we can comeback.”
