On Wednesday afternoon, a Freeborn County sheriff’s deputy was asked by a Department of Corrections agent to locate a local citizen and bring him to the county jail for a medical test as part of the person’s parole conditions.

The deputy located the 38-year-old man at the service station near the corner of Bridge Avenue and Fountain Street about 4:30 p.m..

According to a news release, the man became agitated and wanted to take his vehicle home. However, he was told this couldn’t be done. The male was also advised that if he left the station he would be charged with fleeing a police officer.

The man is scheduled to appear in Freeborn County District Court today.

Report: Sauna caused the fire

A spokesman for the Albert Lea Fire Department said the basement fire at the residence at 334 W. William St. on Tuesday evening was caused by a sauna being left on accidentally. The excess heat from the sauna resulted in the nearby wood trim or framing catching fire.

Update on accident victim

A spokesman for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester said today that Daniel Arden Smith, who was injured in a crash early Wednesday morning near Myrtle, is listed in serious condition.
