Rochester John Marshall swept the Albert Lea boys’ tennis team 7-0 Thursday in Rochester in the regular season finale for the Tigers.
Albert Lea had several close matches in both singles and doubles but failed to come up with a win.
Brian Reindl played at No. 3 singles and took the first set 6-4 against the Rockets’ Matt Bitz, but Bitz was able to grind out a 6-4, 7-5 victory in the next two sets.
At No. 3 doubles the Albert Lea duo of Luke Cheever and Logan Tufte earned a 7-6 (7-3) win the first set, but dropped the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 against Ben Ringhofer and Chris Captain.
“Some close matches at some of the doubles and singles, but we’re still not playing at that potential in that sort of range that we need to be at,” said Tigers head coach Sean Gillam. “It’s one of those things that we’ll have to continue pick it up and to play better.”
The Big Nine Conference tournament begins Saturday in Rochester.
