A tornado watch is in effect for Freeborn, Faribault, Waseca, Steele, Blue Earth and other counties to the north and west until 11 p.m.
The area goes as far north as Todd County and as far west as Jackson County. A tornado watch means conditions for tornadoes are possible. It does not mean a tornado has touched down.
Presently, there is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Stearns County.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for a thunderstorm to strike Albert Lea this evening. It is expected to bring hail and damaging winds, with rainfall between one-quarter and one-half inch.
