Bulldogs baseball pushes streak to 9 games

Lake Mills starting pitcher Brad Midlang turned in six sharp innings and the Bulldog bats continued to pound away at their opponent Monday in a 14-6, six-inning win against West Hancock in Lake Mills.

Lake Mills tallied nine hits to pick up its ninth consecutive win, but the Bulldogs failed to hit a home run for the first time during the winning streak.

It didn’t matter much as Midlang was busy striking out hitters at the plate and throwing three-hit ball. Midlang struck out nine hitters and allowed two earned runs on three hits. He went the first three innings without allowing a hit. He also went 1-for-1 with a three-run double in the fourth inning as Lake Mills pushed six runs across the plate in the frame.

Royce Byrnes went 2-for-4 with a double and Chris Throne went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Up next for the Bulldogs is Newman Catholic, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 1A, Wednesday in a doubleheader in Lake Mills. Last time out Lake Mills fell 10-1 and had just three hits against the Knights.

“It would be good for Wednesday night if we could keep the streak alive and end their big winning streak,” Bulldogs head coach Jason Blaser said. “I think for the first time in five years I feel like we have a team that can compete.”
