Caroll Arends, 83, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Caroll Donald Arends, 83, of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Round Prairie Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Burial will be at Round Prairie Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County servicemen’s organizations.
Caroll died on Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.
Caroll D. Arends was born on March 6, 1926, in Blue Earth, the son of George and Mabel (Larson) Arends. He attended rural school and graduated from Wells High School. Caroll worked on the family farm in rural Wells and served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years. After his discharge he returned to the farm and moved with the family to a farm in Rock Dell in 1948. Caroll then moved to Oakland to farm. On April 27, 1957 he was united in marriage to Donna Meixner in Owatonna. Caroll and his wife purchased a farm in rural Glenville in 1958 where they resided for over 40 years. In addition to farming Caroll worked in maintenance at Streater. Following his retirement he delivered recreational vehicles through out the country and wintered in Arizona. The couple moved to Albert Lea in 2001. In his spare time he enjoyed dancing, fishing, listening to old time music, woodworking, bingo, collecting arrow heads and rock hunting. Most important to him was spending time with his family. Caroll was active in the senior citizens, the Eagles and 4-H with his children. He was a member of Round Prairie Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his children; Keith Arends, Tucson, Ariz., and Jodi Wild, Byron; grandchildren; Elizabeth and Katherine Wild, Byron; sisters-in-law: Marlys Arends and Norma Arends, Hayfield; brothers-in-law: Marvin and (Beverly) Meixner and Robert and (Sharon) Meixner, all of Owatonna; and nieces and nephews: Trudy Redford, Toni Sonenszajn, Barbara Nelson, Linda Arends, Marcia Kraus, Mavis Schmidt, Mark Meixner, Terri Chapple, Steve Meixner and Jill Meixner. .
Caroll was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shelli Arends; wife, Donna; sisters: Delores and Betty; and brothers, Orville and Lowell.
Memorials are preferred to Round Prairie Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
