Editorial: Vikings trying to sell some tickets

Dear Minnesota Vikings:
Brett Favre was a great football player and he probably could sell some tickets to longtime Packers fans, but if it weren’t for that factor, would you even be working out contract details with him?
Of course not.
Signing Favre won’t make the Vikings a better team. It seems you have become the NFL’s retirement home for old quarterbacks. The Vikings haven’t had a go-to guy at quarterback since Tommy Kramer and before that Fran Tarkenton. (We can’t really classify Daunte Culpepper as a go-to guy.)
That’s the position this team has needed for decades now. The Steelers have Ben. The Patriots have Tom. The Eagles have Donovan. The Cowboys have Tony. Why can’t the Vikes get that level of player, rather than these one-season wonders?
