Editorial: Wishing the best for the Hausers

With the safe and willing return of Colleen and Daniel Hauser to Brown County, the court and the Hausers can now concentrate on the most important matter at hand: getting treatment for Daniel’s cancer.

One thing is clear: Daniel is no more accepting of chemotherapy than he was before. According to his attorney Phillip Elbert, Daniel will accept the chemotherapy one session at a time, and wants to be consulted before and after each session.

Daniel and his family will need all the support, all the encouragement and all the explanation his doctors can provide about the nature of his disease and the what chemotherapy will do to him, and for him. If all Daniel knows is that the treatment is painful, he will resist it. If he understands what the cancer is doing, what it will do to him if left untreated, and how chemotherapy will help him, we hope he will be more accepting.

Daniel needs to fight his cancer, and nothing will help him do that more than acceptance of his treatment and the belief that it will do him good.

We wish Daniel and his family nothing but success in their battle.
