The National Weather Service’s forecast for Albert Lea calls for the storms to strike after 4 p.m. with large hail and damaging winds. There is an 80 percent chance of precipitation, with rainfall between one-quarter and one-half inch.

As of 7:30 a.m., severe thunderstorms were striking Storm Lake and Spencer, Iowa, hardest in a system that stretched from Denison, Iowa, to Watertown, S.D.

On Wednesday, people with the Albert Lea Tribune’s Text Alerts could get news and notices of the tornado warnings via their cell phones, even though the power was out throughout many areas of the county. The Tribune’s new system is expected to come in handy tonight.
