ShineFest fundraiser tonight at Cold Stone

People can cheer on nine local pastors and church leaders to see who can eat the most ice cream in five minutes in a ShineFest fundraiser tonight.

It’s all happening at 7 p.m. at Cold Stone Creamery in the Trail’s Travel Center of Albert Lea. The winning pastor of the contest will receive $1,000 for their church or they have the option to donate the money to ShineFest. The contest is being held in the Trail’s Travel Center parking lot next to McDonald’s. Singer and songwriter, Joey Holiday, will serve as master of ceremonies.

In addition to the ice cream eating contest, both Cold Stone Creamery and Trail’s Family Restaurant will donate 20 percent of sales today from 3 p.m. to close to ShineFest.

The purpose of ShineFest is to show the love of Christ and the unity of his body through practical service to the community. Shinefest participants honor Christ with work projects at schools, parks and in the streets and show his love with free oil changes, gas, food, and clothing giveaways.

This year the ShineFest week of service is planned for Aug. 17-22. The group will be putting finishing touches on the Bancroft disk golf course, working on projects in Clarks Grove and Hollandale, and giving a face lift to Hammer Field. The week ends with the free oil change, food and blood drives and the very popular free family store. More information can be found on www.shinefest.org.
