The land, er, garbage between the lakes

I was back behind the old Farmland site recently and was sad to see the amount of garbage that has accumulated in the water and floating along the banks of the channel, not to mention what was left on the banks. Can’t we do better as a community in doing what is right for our natural resources? Just because this area might be off the beaten path and hidden from view so to speak doesn’t mean that it should be used as a trash site.
So what can be done to clean this place up?
First:
Is it possible for the city of Albert Lea to put a garbage can or two back by the old bridge so people that are fishing have a place to dispose of their garbage.
Second:
Can the city of Albert Lea, Freeborn County and the Shell Rock Watershed District work together in a joint project to get this area cleaned up? The city and the watershed have the tool needed to get this area cleaned up, and I would think that the county could provide the manpower by putting people that are sentence to public service to work by taking then down there and put them to work cleaning the mess up.
Couldn’t that be a win-win situation with minimal cost to the taxpayers?
