USC eighth-grader drops 10 strokes at girls’ golf tournament

United South Central eighth-grader Ali Wood rebounded from a tough start to the Class 2A girls’ golf state tournament Thursday at The Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.
Wood trimmed 10 strokes off her first round to shoot 94 in the second round and finished tied for 66th overall with a two-day total of 198. Emily Roering of Minnewaska won the tournament with a 146 and her team ran away with the title with a two-day score of 610, beating Red Wing by 67 strokes.
Rebels head coach Randy Halvorson said it was, “a difference of being really nervous the first day and very confident the second day.”
Wood shot 45-49 on the day after a difficult day of putting Wednesday.
“The difference was she putted really well,” Halvorson said. “She was much more relaxed.
