USC Legion splits twinbill again

Doubleheaders have been like gnats in the face of the United South Central American Legion baseball team lately — annoying.

Post 210 (9-5) split its second consecutive doubleheader, losing the first game 7-0 to Minnesota Lake, but came back to hand Minnesota Lake a 10-2 drubbing.

“Played the first game a little flat and came out and hit in the second game,” said USC head coach Pat Frank.

Post 210 had just two hits against Minnesota Lake starter Isaac Obermeyer as he struck out nine hitters in a six-inning win.

In the second game the USC bats woke up and pounded out 11 hits as Kevin George and William Huper guided the team at the plate.

George went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the first inning that helped give Post 210 a 7-2 advantage. George finished the game with four RBIs.

Huper connected in the sixth inning for a two-run homer of his own as USC took a 10-2 lead. Huper finished 2-for-4.

Eric Lakey went 3-for-4 and Dustin Dylla had a 2-for-4 night.

Ned Kalis picked up the win despite walking six batters in his 2 1/3 innings of work.

George came on in relief in the third and struck out seven while allowing just three hits and no runs.
