The second annual April Sorensen Memorial Half Marathon will be held July 11 at 8 a.m. and organizers are still looking for volunteers to help throughout the course.

The areas where volunteers are needed most are at water stations near the end of the course, traffic control throughout the race and course set-up on July 11 at 6 a.m. in Hayward.

There will be a meeting for volunteers at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairlane Community Building on the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. At the meeting, volunteer responsibilities will be announced along with specific times and meeting station head chairmen.

Those who want to run instead of volunteer can still register up until registration on July 11.

The marathon begins on East Main Street in Albert Lea and finishes on Main Street in Hayward. It is open to all men and women who have trained to run a 13.1-mile foot race.

Also, new this year is the option to run in a two-person relay. Two people split the marathon and each run 6.55 miles.

The half marathon is in memory of April Sorensen, who was murdered in her home in Rochester on April 17, 2007, at the age of 27. Her killing remains unsolved. Her family asks people to remember her by running.
