Mitchell Wood, son of Richard and Patricia Wood, was selected as first-chair cellist at the Dorian Music Camp at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, June 14-20.
Daniel Baldwin conducted the orchestra repertoire, which included the “Jupiter Symphony” and selections from “Porgy and Bess” by Gershwin.
Each day, students rehearsed for 3 1/2 hours with Baldwin and had 1 1/2 hours of sectionals. Elective class choices ranged from theory, composition, conducting classes to metals class and other art and theater classes.
National and international students attend and audition for chair seating.
Wood is a student of Sharon L. Astrup-Scott.
