The live segment of “Good Morning America” on Wednesday featuring the AARP/Blue Zones Vitality Project in Albert Lea will broadcast from Brookside Education Center.

Amy McDonough, associate state director of communications with AARP, said community members are welcome to come to the site at about 6:30 a.m.

Parking will be difficult with all of the production equipment, so people should plan to either carpool or park on the street, she said.

People are encouraged to wear their Vitality Project T-shirts if they have them and are welcome to bring homemade signs if they choose. The signs should try to include the name of the project, the name of a walking moai or the name of a walking school bus.

The live shot will take place during the 7:10 a.m. segment, rain or shine, she said.

The theme of the shot will be “Albert Leans on the Move.”

“Good Morning America” weather anchor, Sam Champion, will lead a long group of Albert Leans on a walk to illustrate the project. He will also do the weather from the inside of Brookside, McDonough said.

“It’s really an exciting time for Albert Lea,” she said. “We want people to come out and show the world all that Albert Lea has been doing.”

Blue Zones founder Dan Buettner will be interviewed during the second hour.

McDonough said Champion and “Good Morning America” producers today will tour local businesses and talk with families and individuals who have made changes because of the project.

On Wednesday after the live segment, the project’s leaders will announce the local restaurants that have agreed to make healthier changes to their menus through the Vitality Project Restaurant Pledge.

The Vitality Project aims to make Albert Lea residents healthier by making simple changes in their lifestyles.

Project leaders announced in January that Albert Lea was chosen for the project, which is the first of its kind.
