With the establishment of the Korean War Armistice Day, which is recognized on July 27 of each year, the Freeborn County Korean War veterans will recognize their own veterans in a very special way.
As part of the local recognition program leading up to July 27, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 447, American Legion Post 56, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 56 are organizing a creative display for veterans. Any veteran who was assigned to military units throughout the world (in any branch of service) in support of operations between 1950 and 1960 and would like to share their experiences, pictures, slides, posters or memorabilia, are asked to contact the American Legion Post 56 at (507) 373-7993.
Even if you do not have any pictures of your past military years, please let us know where you were stationed and we will mark your duty station on the display maps. Personal information requested of a veteran (for locating and displaying a veteran’s duty station/deployment site on one of the three large maps) is as follows:
Last name, first name and middle initial.
Branch of service and unit served.
Service dates.
Service location/base/deployment-site.
Military title/rank.
Military occupation.
Mailing address.
Phone/cell number.
Information should be sent to the Leo Carey American Legion Post 56, Project Coordinator/David R. Olson, 142 N. Broadway, Albert Lea, Minnesota 56007. The website is: www.americanlegionpost56.com.
An exhibit and pancake breakfast will be held on Sunday, July 26 from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club.
