A letter to the editor from reader Paul Westrum in the Thursday edition said there would be a demonstration at 8 p.m. today in New Denmark Park organized by the nonprofit Centro Campesino group. The Owatonna-based Centro Campesino confirmed Thursday afternoon that its vigil calling for immigration reform does not take place in Albert Lea today.
Centro Campesino is holding a series of vigils called Journey of Hope.
“Come and join us in this journey across rural Minnesota and help us keep the flame alive and strong- as we join the national effort to reform our immigration system, end the raids, and bring millions of hardworking immigrants out of the shadows,” reads its Web site, www.centrocampesino.net.
Organizers confirmed that at 8 p.m. July 10 — today — the Journey of Hope is in Faribault but at 8 p.m. July 24 it is in Albert Lea at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Fountain Street.
