Norma Vermedahl, 88

Norma Vermedahl, 88, of Emmons, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday morning at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons with the Rev. Julie Fiske officiating. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, Iowa 50450 and again one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will take place at Lime Creek (Stateline) Cemetery in rural Emmons.
Norma Lorraine Vermedahl, daughter of Ole and Sena (Kvilvang) Thompson, was born on the farm near Twin Lakes, Freeborn County, on July 7, 1921. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Emmons Lutheran Church. Norma attended and graduated from Emmons High School.
On May 19, 1940, Norma was united in marriage with Arthur Vermedahl.  The couple raised their family on the same farm where her husband, Art, was born.
Norma was a devoted wife who helped her husband with everything on the farm, was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. At her home, you didn’t need an invitation and there was never a shortage of food. She was always warm and welcoming. She was an active and faithful member of Lime Creek Lutheran Church and Emmons Lutheran Church, taking part in many activities and projects which included reading to and mentoring many young people. She raised five children leaving them with many wonderful memories. She loved sewing, playing cards, cross stitching, was very proud of her Norweigen heritage and was also known as the neighborhood hair cutter and hair fixer.
Survivors include her children: Leo Vermedahl and his wife Linda of Dalhart, Texas, Lyle Vermedahl and his wife Barb of Casper, Wyo., Julie Griffith and her husband Michael of Boulder, Colo.; two daughters-in-law: JaVonne Eidahl and her husband Konrad of Emmons, Lynda Vermedahl of Twin Lakes; 12 grandchildren: Daniel and Teri Vermedahl, Michael Vermedahl and friend Bobbie, Dr. Nicole and Brett Storseth, Dr. Nathan and Lysl Vermedahl, Amy and Adam Bowers, Christopher and Renee Metcalf, Tracy and Mark Stonehocker, Lori and Wayne Bement, Kari and Jeff Jorth, Jon Vermedahl, Jacob and Kari Griffith, and Jeremy and Charlotte Griffith; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Arthur; two sons: Darryl and Roger Vermedahl; brothers: Clifford and Duane Thompson; and twin granddaughters: Kristen and Kellie Vermedahl.
